Do You Need a Stokke High Chair?
Yes, we recommend that you add a high chair to your registry for a few reasons. High chairs are convenient, and they help contain the mess that comes along with starting solids. But most of all, they position your little one in the proper upright position for eating, providing a safe, comfortable spot for them to kick off their lifelong journey with food.
How to Choose a Stokke High Chair
Do you live in a smaller space and eat most of your meals around a tiny table? Then a booster-style seat that straps right onto one of your chairs or one that clips to a counter may be right for you so baby can pull up a seat right at the table. Do you have a larger table, or live in a home with multiple eating areas? Then a standalone seat that comes with its own tray and can easily be moved from room to room may be your best bet.
When it comes to cleaning, some parents don’t mind sacrificing form for function and choose whatever high chair best fits their favorite aesthetic. But if you know constant scrubbing or getting into nooks and crannies is going to drive you nuts, you may want to stick with a basic, plastic model or one with wipeable fabric.
Keep food contained (and not on the floor!) with these top Stokke High Chair picks.
A few other things to consider when you’re choosing the high chair include:
- Foldability. If space is an issue, you may want to consider a full-size chair that can be folded down and stored or a portable high chair.
- Durability. Planning on a large family and passing your high chair down from kid to kid? Although they’re on the pricier side, investing in a well-made wooden seat might be the best choice for you.
- How long will you use it? Think about how long you’re hoping to keep your little one in a high chair. There are several chairs that grow with your child, either by converting to a booster seat or even to an adult-sized chair.
- Safety. Always consider your child’s safety when buying any piece of baby gear, but especially when it comes to choosing the best high chair. You’ll want to make sure your seat features a restraint system like a 3- or 5-point harness, good stability (if the chair has wheels, make sure they lock in place), a crotch post and nothing that’s going to pinch or catch on baby’s tiny fingers and toes—or on yours.
Is the Stokke high chair worth it?
If you’re looking for an eco-friendly, reliable, and long-lasting high chair, the Stokke Tripp Trapp may be perfect for you. You will have to purchase additional accessories such as the infant insert and tray if you plan to use it for a child under 2 years old, but the chair itself will last for years.

STOKKE CLIKK
The Stokke Clikk brings Scandinavian design to a chair that’s easy to clean, quick to assemble and more affordable than Stokke’s other high chairs.
Weighing only 8 pounds, the Click simplifies travel and installation, offering a tool-free assembly that involves only a few simple clicks. While the Click can’t be used for a newborn or an adult-like Stokke’s other chairs, it can be used with or without the Baby Set support and tray from baby’s first meal through toddlerhood

STOKKE TRIPP TRAPP VS. STEPS VS. CLIKK AGE AND WEIGHT LIMITS
One of the greatest differences between the Stokke Tripp Trapp, Steps and Click is the length of time you can use the high chair as your child grows.
The Stokke Click covers the length of time most families use a high chair: from approximately 6 months (when your baby can begin eating solid foods) to around age 3.
But the Stokke Tripp Trapp and Stokke Steps can also be configured for newborns and even for adults, allowing you to begin using the chairs earlier and continue using them for years to come.
Here’s a look at the age and weight limits for the three chairs, depending on their configurations.
WITH NEWBORN ATTACHMENTS Stokke High Chair
With the Stokke Steps and Tripp Trapp, your baby can join you at the dinner table from her first days at home, long before she’s ready for her own mealtime.
The Steps chair can connect with the Steps Bouncer (sold separately for $199.99), which can also be used independently on the floor.
The Tripp Trapp pairs with the Newborn Set (sold separately for $149.99), which allows baby to lie flat while remaining within view at table height.
The Stokke Clikk cannot be used until approximately 6 months, when your baby is able to sit upright.
- Tripp Trapp: Birth to 6 months with Tripp Trapp Newborn Set
- Steps: Birth to 6 months with Steps Bouncer
- Clikk: Not suitable for newborns

WITH BABY SET AND/OR HARNESS
All three products are easy to use in high chair mode, in which your child is elevated to the table and secured with a harness and plastic restraint (which Stokke calls the “baby set”).
For the Clikk, the baby set and food tray are integrated into a single piece that snaps into the chair.
All components for the Tripp Trapp and Steps can be purchased individually, but Stokke also offers two bundle options: a high chair that includes the baby set and a complete bundle that adds a tray and cushion.
All three Stokke high chairs can be used from approximately 6 months to 3 years with the baby set and harness.
- Tripp Trapp: 6 months to approximately 3 years with baby set and harness
- Steps: 6 months to approximately 3 years with baby set and harness
- Clikk: 6 months to approximately 3 years with harness

CHAIR
Eventually, your child will be too big for a high chair, yet not quite big enough for a regular chair. Your toddler probably won’t be able to reach the table in your dining chairs, which also won’t provide foot support for proper ergonomics.
The chairs for the Stokke Tripp Trapp and Steps can be used for many years as a seat for the dining table, homework, or arts and crafts time. They’re even sturdy enough to support an adult and can be paired with a cushion to add comfort.
With its smaller seat and limited functionality, the Clikk can be used only until around age 3.
- Tripp Trapp: 3 years to 242 pounds
- Steps: 3 years to 187 pounds
- Clikk: Suitable up to about 3 years or 33 pounds

STOKKE TRIPP TRAPP VS. STEPS VS. CLIKK PRICE
The Clikk is Stokke’s most affordable high chair, priced $149 lower than the Tripp Trapp and $219 lower than the Steps if the same components are purchased.
The Tripp Trapp and Steps are a longer-term investment, considering they can be used both before and after your child needs a high chair—even into adulthood.
Here’s a look at pricing for the three products, based on their configurations as a standalone chair, basic high chair, and fully-accessorized high chair.
CHAIR
- Clikk: sold only as high chair
- Tripp Trapp Chair: $199
- Steps Chair: $249
HIGH CHAIR
The “high chair” bundle for the Stokke Tripp Trapp and Steps includes the chair and baby set attachment.
A food tray is sold separately for the Tripp Trapp and Steps—most European parents opt to bring baby to the table instead—but it’s included with the Clikk.
- Clikk: $169 (includes chair and tray)
- Tripp Trapp High Chair: $269 (includes chair and baby set; add tray for $49)
- Steps High Chair: $339 (includes chair and baby set; add tray for $49)
CHAIR WITH TRAY AND CUSHION Stokke High Chair
Stokke offers a complete bundle for the Tripp Trapp and Steps that includes all the accessories you’d want in a high chair: the chair, baby set, tray and cushion.
By purchasing the bundle instead of separate accessories, you’ll save $27 on the Tripp Trapp and $47 on the Steps. But some parents prefer buying separate items to customize colors or for registry purposes.
- Clikk high chair and cushion: $203
- Tripp Trapp Complete Bundle: $349
- Steps Complete Bundle: $399
STOKKE TRIPP TRAPP VS. STEPS VS. CLIKK WEIGHT AND DIMENSIONS Stokke High Chair
The Stokke Clikk is lighter than the Tripp Trapp or Steps, making it the most portable of the three chairs.
True to its name, the legs of the chair simply click in and out, allowing you to reduce the size of the chair if you’re traveling or storing it when not in use.
The Tripp Trapp and Steps require assembly with screws, so they can’t be quickly disassembled.
HIGH CHAIR DIMENSIONS
- Tripp Trapp: 19.3″L x 31.1″H x 18.1″W
- Steps: 14.7″L x 15.9″H x 17.3″W

STOKKE TRIPP TRAPP VS. STEPS VS. CLIKK ACCESSORIES
Accessories help customize your high chair, whether you’re adding functionality during mealtime, updating its appearance, or converting it for an older child.
The Tripp Trapp and Steps have the widest range of add-ons—including multiple types of cushions and newborn accessories—because they can be used throughout multiple stages of your child’s development.
Fewer accessories are available for the Clikk, but it’s the only Stokke high chair that offers a travel bag.
A customized version of the EZPZ, a popular silicone mat that suctions to the tray to prevent messy meals, is available for each Stokke high chair.
